Congratulations to Lin Gu, MD, a Breast Imaging Fellow with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, on winning the Wendell Scott Research Award from the Society of Breast Imaging.

Congratulations to Dr. Shandong Wu

Dr. Shandong Wu, Professor of Radiology, received a research award of $100,000 from PA Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) this year to study AI-based biomarker for breast cancer treatments, collaborating with UPMC breast cancer oncologist Dr. Marija Balic. Dr. Wu also received this award last year, highlighting the commitment of PBCC in investing transformative AI technology in fighting against breast cancer.

Dr. Shandong Wu – Promoted to Professor

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Shandong Wu, PhD on his promotion to Professor with tenure in the Investigator-Educator pathway. Dr. Wu’s research on artificial intelligence in Radiology has placed him (and our entire department) at the forefront of AI research. His multiple NIH R01 grants have served to advance the research mission of Radiology. His lab is one of the most popular in the School of Medicine for medical student research opportunities. We look forward to many more successes from Dr. Wu.

Dr. Onder and colleagues from the Cardiothoracic Imaging Division receive 2 educational exhibit Magna Cum Laude Awards at RSNA 2024

Out of 1548 exhibits reviewed, only 19 were Magna Cum Laude awardees. That recognition is due to the dedication and expertise of Cardiothoracic Imaging faculty and collaborations with colleagues within multiple departments.

RSNA 2024 Awards

We are thrilled to announce that at RSNA 2024, two educational exhibits of our Cardiothoracic Imaging Division have been honored with Magna Cum Laude awards. Out of 1,548 exhibits reviewed, only 19 received this distinction, with our chest and cardiac imaging exhibits standing out among the best.

  • Magna Cum Laude Award in Chest Imaging (NOT ONLY LOW GRADE BUT ALSO THE ART OF SLOW TRADE: UNDERSTANDING ADENOCARCINOMA OF THE LUNG DEVELOPING FROM CYSTIC AND SUBSOLID NODULES): 2 out of 117 exhibits recognized

  • Magna Cum Laude Award in Cardiac Imaging (TESTING THE WATERS: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF ENTITIES CAUSING MYOCARDIAL EDEMA WITH SYSTEMATIC AND CASE-BASED APPROACH): 1 out of 74 exhibits honored

Congratulations to Dr. Berg

On October 24, 2024, Dr. Wendie Berg, Chief Scientific Advisor to DenseBreast-info.org, received the prestigious Silver Medal of Honor from the Austrian Medical Society to recognize her contributions to the design of the Austrian Breast Cancer Screening Program (which includes screening ultrasound for women with dense breasts).
